Based on its "about" section, the mastodon.social server is based in Germany. However, according to https://fedidb.com/servers, the mastodon.social instance of Mastodon is listed as being based in the United States!

Is this wrong or is it due to the fact I live in Canada and the closest physical server for mastodon.social is in the USA?

Elon Musk Backlash Turns Into Global Sales Slump for Tesla

Mr. Musk’s involvement in right-wing politics contributed to a 13% drop in deliveries in the first quarter, including steep declines in E.V.-friendly places like Norway.

NOAA operations are slowed by mandate for Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick to approve ALL contracts/contract extensions above $100,000. This nearly led to a significant deterioration of National Weather Service operations last night.

This is NOT efficiency.

Orbán’s Hungary Could Be America’s Future

MAGA conservatives love Viktor Orbán. But he’s left his country corrupt, stagnant, and impoverished.

The all-out war on science being waged by the Trump-Musk administration is hard to understand.

In early 2016, before #Trump won his first Republican presidential nomination, a prescient book by Shawn Otto described the three main components of this war on #science.

1) Industrial
2) Religious/Ideological
3) Identity Politics

Here's my review of Otto's seminal and still timely work:

The war on science - book review

Before Donald Trump won the 2016 Republican Party's presidential primaries, Shawn Otto authored a prescient book about the three-pronged war that is waged against science by industry, religion, and identity politics.

This is for Americans who don’t agree with how Trump is threatening Canada.

Thank you.

Any ire that you see me (or, I believe, any Canadian) post here is not directed at you. I know there are millions of you. I know you are trying. I know some of you feel hopeless and maybe even despondent, but know this.

Canada loves YOU. We always will.

Yes we are very angry at your leader and the people around him, and even at your country, because the President, is the Country, in a sense, but we know there are good Americans who never wanted any of this.

We know you will stand up for us. And if you need us, we will stand with you too. Because that’s what friends do.

Happy #AprilFools day to all who celebrate
@Rasta I had to check if that was true! 😉
@NormanDunbar It's made up, you can be sure. Morning Norm, have you won the lotto yet? I need a rich friend #LOL
@Rasta Morning to you too. I'm afraid I don't do the Lotto (or National Lottery as it's called in UK) so I'm unable to be of assistance in the "rich friend" department. 😟
@NormanDunbar
Of all my friends,. can't find a wealthy one?
I was close once. Well, a guy I sort-of knew.. we were both in Air Cadets in Germany but didn't hang out. He won a million dollar lotto, and told me FIRST .. .I was hoping that was a sign.. I guess I was the first he saw to tell online
@Rasta We can double-down on this by rebranding it Discrimination Day
@chris_hatton_au The day before *LIBERATION DAY* I think Canada should celebrate Trump's LIBERATION DAY but cutting fuel and electric supply from Canada for the day, unless they get rid of Elon Musk, or we raise it and demand the firing of Hegseth too.
@Rasta
There are some that will find even this too taxing

@Rasta In reality it's more like so-exhausted-I-just-avoid-announcements-and-news day.

One of the 3D printing companies I follow announced a new thing. Nevermind, that was a joke. One of the chess sites I love & follow announced a new thing. Nevermind, that was a joke. One of the IRC networks I love announced a sad thing. Nevermind, that was a joke.

My preferred search engine announced a thing. I don't know if it's real or not.

@holsta I heard there was a stabbing in Halifax overnight. But, that happens a lot, it could just be a prank... or not. .

I remember a lot of detailed events in my life from very early age. Some of a traumatic nature, but otherwise, just haunting memories of places you grew up, and met friends and then moved away and never heard of them again. Only those in my teens, have kept in touch, somewhat.

I remember when I was 3. Not a lot, but vivid instances. I remember my father walking me, and when we got to a train bridge (no floor, just railroad ties) over a river, he carried me on his shoulders. The dog (Charlie Brown) would not cross, and my father had to take me a safe distance away, sit me on a rock and tell me not to move, while he wrestled the black lab onto his shoulders and brought him across too.

@Rasta Let's make every day April Fools Day for a better internet.

@Rasta I was fooled by one video almost to the halfway point... but in my defense, it was still March 31 in my timezone 😋 so, as the patent post suggested no skepticism required 😉

@mcrocker Time zones ruin Social Media surprises but locally, I'd have to be working to be around people on April Fools day. I'm not, so the FOOL part is lost
@Rasta this sort of reminds me of the theme in @pluralistic 's Eastern standard tribe https://books.mxhdr.net/book/105839/s/eastern-standard-tribe . Although the book didn't do a great job of predicting the social media future, the basic concept of timezones affecting who one associates with despite the modern internet breaking down many geographic barriers, was a good insight.
Eastern standard tribe - MXHDR BookWyrm

Art is a member of the Eastern Standard Tribe, a secret society bound together by a sleep schedule. Around the world, those who wake and sleep on East Coast time find common cause with one another, cooperating, conspiring, to help each other out, coordinated by a global network of Wi-Fi, instant messaging, ubiquitous computing, and a shared love of Manhattan-style bagels. Or perhaps not. Art is, after all, in the nuthouse. He was put there by a conspiracy of his friends and loved ones, fellow travelers from EST hidden in the bowels of Greenwich Mean Time, spies masquerading as management consultants who strive to mire Europe in oatmeal-thick bureaucracy. Eastern Standard Tribe is a story of madness and betrayal, of society after the End of Geography, of the intangible factors that define us as a species, as a tribe, as individuals. Scathing, bitter, and funny, EST examines the immutable truths of time, of sunrise and sunset of societies smashed and rebuilt in the storm of instant, ubiquitous communication.

@mcrocker Back in the day, when there was a real *Twitter*, I'd be up early and the majority of the people I talked to were in the UK or EU. Locals got up too late to see their posts
@Rasta GOP has moved April Fools Day to April 2
