Why must I be subjected to The Horrors
(my neighbors drilling something at a perfectly understandable time)

@iaintshootinmis It doesn't use traditional direct registry backing. It instead uses the experience pack's (MicrosoftWindows.Client.AIX) Settings.dat from %LocalAppData%\Packages (like a UWP app would)

Inside there it's stored in LocalState\Windows.AI.ScreenUnderstanding.Settings as a StringArray called CaptureExclusions full of Base64 encoded bits.

Here's how some looks decoded, looks like the first one is always exclusion of self (amusing), the rest is user defined.

Can confirm that Recall data is indeed stored in a SQLite3 database. The folder it's in is fully accessible only by SYSTEM and the Administrators group. Attempting to access it as a normal user yields the usual "You don't currently have permission" error. Here's how the database is laid out for those curious, figured you might appreciate a few screenshots.

I was able to get Recall working on this bad boy 😎
Snapdragon 7c+ Gen3, 3.4 GB of RAM, no NPU in sight

Will cook up a tutorial soon, it's surprisingly good even on something this low spec 😊 If you have any questions I'll do my best to answer them ✍️

Recall is always capitalized, maybe that's how Microsoft wants to market all of this? Tough to tell with how things keep changing
Text in this preview build suggests that the "AI Explorer" umbrella term may not be used publicly after all. ✨😮 The page for tweaking privacy settings of the new AI smarts is simply called "Recall and snapshots." Guess they want to highlight individual features instead.🤔

Another piece of new-ish functionality in Settings is the ability to ask Copilot ✨ for help in case the inbox database has no result for your query 🔍

In case you don't have the option yet and would like to use it, enable feature ID 49445394

You'll be able to configure Companions through the Settings > Personalization > Start. It features a list of installed Companions with on/off toggles as well as a link to the provider's site for customization (similar to Widgets, it's very web centric). Dock side is up to the developer.
It's time for the Start menu to become extensible! ✨
Windows 11 β build 26212 quietly introduces support for "Start Menu Companions." They're apps that provide Adaptive Cards which display on a floating island (docked ⬅️ or ➡️) alongside Start.
Used Widgets data as a quick demo 😊
Additionally I want to apologize for not posting here even though I said I wanted to. While I worked on a few things, none of them have been nearly as interesting or groundbreaking to warrant thorough multiplatform posting. I’ve been quite inactive online in general and I hope to dedicate a bit more time to hobbies again.
