I’m going to say this once: My life and my body and my work have been designated as “political” by people in my country who want people like me quiet, subservient, or gone. This goes double for Black, immigrant, and trans folks.

Here's another reason open source software is better:

Proprietary software let's incompetent programmers hide their mistakes. It lets malicious companies hide their evils. Open source lets anyone audit the code.

This means those people can learn from their mistakes and be better.
