I like to find, support and build resources that inch us closer to a future of co-operation, mutual care and community wellbeing ๐ŸŒผ

Hello Fediverse! ๐Ÿ‘‹ I am exploring the mechanics of how communities, cooperatives, and decentralized networks actually function and survive in the real world.

Welcome to The Governance Stress Test ๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐ŸŒฟ
(wicked guitar riff)

In this ongoing series, I plan on looking at the stress points of community-led systems. I will be posing questions backed by insights from thinkers whoโ€™s writings Iโ€™ve enjoyed like Elinor Ostrom, Murray Bookchin, Manuel DeLanda, Jane Jacobs, James C. Scott and others as a fun way to examine how resilient our systems truly are when it comes to dispute resolution, resource management, and autonomy.

Iโ€™m not planning on this being โ€œThe Travis Shares Theory Showโ€. I want to hear about your real-world experiences, case studies, and critiques.

How to follow along:

To catch every post follow this dedicated hashtag: #GovStressTest

I'm looking forward to learning from all of you!

@travislf Ahh no way, that's so nice to hear!

Your project sounds very interesting - excited to see what you're building and will definitely keep in touch.

I've put goodneighbours to the side to deal with a barrage of other things, but hoping to step back into it when everything else quietens down. This is certainly a nice bit of motivation so thanks for reaching out!

I love finding websites that make you think "if this had the traffic of tiktok for like an hour, the whole world would change for the better."

Someone shared this site with me as it serves a very similar purpose to the directory I've spent the last few months building.

Already chatting with one of their devs to see if there's any knowledge we can swap ๐Ÿ’š

If these were for-profit ventures, this situation would be devastating, but instead it's an opportunity to learn, share experience and build together.

@SamLeLuxo Ahh amazing, I'll give that a go then!

That's interesting - the first app I tried to build when I started dabbling in web apps was a lending app with personal and community inventories of stuff you're happy to lend out.

It was a bit too complex for me in the end but definitely agree something like that would be so helpful!

@SamLeLuxo that's interesting, thanks! Doesn't seem to be available in my area, but I'll see if I can take a look at what it does.

First impression is it looks like a similar idea to Nextdoor, but making an active effort to avoid it just being a place to complain about stuff (which is pretty much all is on my local Nextdoor!)

@raphaelmorgan thanks, that would be great! I'm sure the documentation (and probably the framework itself) will need some work once other people start using it, so please do let me know if you run into any problems!
@unhingedhacker thank you!
