““With its majority verdict upholding the 103rd Amendment to the Constitution de livered on November 7, the Supreme Court has finally performed the antyeshti - or last rites - of reservation as an instrument for the redress of caste discrimination.”
“The real damage to the anti-caste-discrimination dimension has been done by the unanimous opinion that economic criteria alone may be used to determine eligibility for reservation.”
Satish Deshpande on the SC verdict on EWS reservation.
“The legislative intent behind reservation was not poverty alleviation but affirmative action for historically discriminated and deprived sections of our society. At a time when privatization is being aggressively pursued by the present government, our fight for reservation in private sector must continue with even greater strength.”
Good statement by @cpofindia on SC judgement on EWS 👏🏽
Just look at the etiquette of Kerala's Education Minister sitting down with the kids offering respects to a historian.
Something which you don't see often in Indian politics, unfortunately. Not just because they don't have the proper etiquette, but also because they don't meet historians, at least not real ones.
In 1498, a man named Vasco da Gama landed here on this beach to become the first European to reach the subcontinent by sea. The rest is history.
