That's you chance to work with others on common problems and issues. Great for building bridges and joining forces.

de-RSE Collaboration Workshop in Germany 2026

Collaborating for the Future of Research Software Engineerig The workshop will take place from 23–25 September 2026 in Göttingen. The Collaborations Workshop 2026 is not organized like a traditional scientific conference, that mainly features talks or other forms of one-to-many communication. Instead, we shift the focus towards interactive, collaborative formats that give the participants room for discussion, action planning and the production of tangible outputs. In other words, we create a...

🇬🇧 Our new paper on designing a German research software institution: expert interviews reveal challenges, specific needs and show solutions. https://zenodo.org/records/17347366

The German research software ecosystem has systemic deficiencies that impair the quality and reproducibility of scientific results. The FutuRSI project identifies five central challenges based on 18 interviews with experts: lack of development expertise and training pathways for research software engineers (RSEs), insufficient career paths, the heterogeneous structure of the German science system, quality deficits and lack of reusability, and insufficient studies. Ten concrete needs are assigned to these challenges, including long-term maintenance, quality assurance, national infrastructures, training, community services, networking, awareness raising, and institutional legitimacy. Nine implementation formats were identified as solutions, ranging from process support services and governance structures to funding opportunities and career development. The next steps in FutuRSI's conceptualization process include research into comparable institutions and their organizational structures, a risk assessment, as well as the development of concrete participation formats and financing models.

We proudly announce the new FutuRSI project!

FutuRSI is a joint initiative that works deeply together with its community to shape the future of a resilient research software ecosystem in Germany.

We are the first to develop a concept for a prototypical service organisation for RSE in Germany and would love to hear your opinions & feedback!

Join us in an effort to create an open, collaborative and sustainable future for Research Software and the people who build it.

Research Software Engineers International

Today is international RSE day!

We are planning a “RSE Collaboration Workshop in Germany 2026” right now. Most likely date: Sep 23-25 2026 in Göttingen.

After a very successful 1st 🇩🇪 workshop of this kind near Jena in 2023, we want to continue to provide the community a platform to collaborate.

This also helps to offload from the #deRSE26 conference in March in Stuttgart: https://events.hifis.net/event/2945/
Call for contributions to conference is open right now!
