https://www.movetodon.org is like Fedifinder, but prettier, easier to use, and doesn't remind you of the existence of "the Fediverse."

Could I tempt you to boost this post, or get involved in a project to customise Linux for users with special needs/learning difficulties? I have two such children. Adults now (18). I want to do something for my boys and for people like them. 🙂❤️

I've already done a bit, using Ansible, with AlmaLinux and Ubuntu: https://github.com/robpomeroy/BrightOS

Please spread the word - I'm sure someone out there would love to get involved!

mastodon.art has IP-blocked a content crawler that does not respect opt-outs (https://kamu.social/@nikodemus/109387002237512723 ).

Such a crawler can be used by anyone anywhere to read through your profile and display it to other people without your permission. In theory a tool like this would be useful for discovery of people with similar interests, but in practice it /has/ to be implemented with safety concerns at the forefront.

Turns out it is actually quite easy to filter someone's Mastodon timeline by tag: <profile URL>/tagged/<tag> 💡 #FediTips

So here's all my past (and once written also future) projects posts 😊:

https://chaos.social/@foosel/tagged/projects

And that will also come in very handy to find my own (tagged) stuff again in the future 😅

A group of students designed a CPU, built it on FPGA, coded a development toolchain for it, and ported a Unix clone to the new CPU. Here's their experience:

How we ran a Unix-like OS (Xv6) on our home-built CPU with our home-built C compiler

[Thanks for many comments and votes on Hacker News! ] It’s been two years since I started working as a software engineer. I sometimes tell my colleagues about a student project I did in my junior year of university, and it’s so well-received that I’m writing this post. 1 Now, let me ask you a question. Have you ever designed your own ISA, built a processor of that ISA on FPGA, and built a compiler for it? Furthermore, have you run an operating system on that processor? Actually, we have.

There were two notable moderation incidents on mastodon.social and mastodon.online in the past 24 hours that I would like to address. In the first, a post was wrongfully removed due to a report claiming it contained a dogwhistle, and in the second, a person was wrongfully suspended due to a report claiming it's an impersonator. Both were undone and apologies issued.
