This isn't your normal "looking for work" post.

I've decided to shut my business and do more volunteer / community work.

If you know of an organisation which could use a board member with strong digital skills, extensive experience in open source and open standards, or cybersecurity please let me know.

Nothing full time. Personal recommendations preferred. Feel free to share.

I bought a lamp and set it up next to my recliner. Not very noteworthy, but because I go to bed last and because all other members of my house require complete darkness and complete quiet to go to sleep, I’d sit in the dark for a couple hours every night staring at an iPad with headphones on. Lamp is going to be a great improvement. I can read paper things again! The 3500K lighting feels more cozy for writing. Lamps! What a concept!

✍️ New post: The Shape of Friction

I wrote a short blog post reply to @davatron5000’s recent post (👏) about generative AI, friction, and people.

In an attempt to create healthier news habits for myself, I built an RSS reader around reading yesterday's news. No unread counts, no constant refreshing—just a finite, organized feed to read once a day.

Today marks the launch of v2.0, a ground-up rebuild. I hope it brings others some welcome focus too.

@davatron5000 lol whoops, did that thing where it started as a note boosting what you said, but turned into more thoughts than I expected and thus a Full Blog Post™️

Writing about the big beautiful mess that is making things for the world wide web.

People are not friction

The Gell-Mann Amnesia Effect of AI is a pretty well documented phenomenon: The Gell-Mann amnesia effect is a cognitive bias describing the tendency of individuals to critically assess media reports in a domain they are knowledgeable about, yet continue to trust reporting in other areas despite recognizing similar potential inaccuracies.

So cyberpunk.
Anyone else seeing choppy YouTube video pages? Looks like they're calling a fn called getPlayerSize() on scroll/hover and it's measuring clientWidth triggering a layout? Am I in a special A/B test?
Dangerously running out of mana.
