I had three male feral hogs show up at my place late Sunday afternoon. Nothing chased them off, not loud sounds , i threw a bucket of water on the big Russian boar he didn't budge, ( I know he was Russian because he had a straight tail with a tassel like a donkey or elephant) pressing all the buttons on the accordion at once,( my sure fire bear deterant) and walking menacingly toward them barely made them look " I emptied two partial cans of bear spray at a distance of 6' . They trotted off for 30 seconds and came right back, and trashed all my potted plants on the patio. The big fellow flipped and pushed a Honda generator 2000 around the yard. tossing things at them made big daddy strut toward me like a 300 lb bar bouncer who works for the Mafia. He followed me to the French door and pressed his nose against the glass. Once he realized that he could bully me to retreat into the house , it was game over for me. And worse yet they decided to spend the night in my front yard, where they dug a huge comfy looking bed , terra forming the side of a steep hill into a terrace, even going to the trouble of leveling it so all 3 could fit.
I bring my cats in at night , so I went out to get them because they were rightfully intimidated by the pigs. The pigs looked to be sleeping soundly ten feet from the edge of the patio. I tip toed past them , got Tanji, and 300lb Big Daddy Gorbachov woke up and made a slow and deliberate beeline toward me," you need to go to bed ..,..get back in the house, I'm warning you. !!!!
I threw a piece of shade cloth over his head and managed to get back inside.
Thank goodness they left in the morning. I think what attracted them is I have lots of water containers out in summer for wildlife that passes by. The old and young farts who hang out at the local hunting tackle n bait shop told me that all normal hog behavior. I had some doubt thinking they could be escapees, because none of them had tusks tho the leader looked like he's got some coming in. They said that hogs grind their teeth down short sometimes or they could be young. They warned me if a hog ever starts clacking their teeth to watch out! I sincerely hope they do not come back.
