I used to hike past this dead tree when it was still standing. It had several gray Tinder Conks [Fomes fomentarius] growing out of it.

After the tree fell, fresh tan mushrooms, grew in at a different angle from their predecessors. The fungus adapted to the change of posture.

So if a tree falls and there’s no one around to hear it, well… at least you might be able to tell WHEN it fell. 🤗
