Prometheus gave fire to humanity who saw it as a tool to do more work than they themselves could. It appeared that they could control fire, have it work away inside the engines that became the driving force behind their society. But fire had not finished with those who saw no end to the benefit it could bestow upon them. Now it pays the misuse in death and destruction until the fire burns back down and we learn what was given to us by Prometheus
