If you don't own the hardware, you emulate it.

The ESP32 QEMU port appears to work, though it's slow.

the master branch of esp-idf documentation now introduces ai

QEMU has evolved so much that support for legacy hardware is bitrotting.

Emulating something like a Sound Blaster 16 would cause the whole operating system to lag when something came from the sound card.

I guess if you want to emulate legacy operating systems for whatever reason, go with 86box or PCem.
