reflecting again on this, because it was a. week.
SO MUCH of being senior is doing the basics at a more & more refined level. there are several dimensions of craft where my staff comfortably exceeds me at this point (as they should, practice has advanced & I was never in the game in eng for example) & my contribution is nuanced communication, broad view, reframing, crisp admin, closing loops, making allies, making space, sending those emails, making the most of those meetings...
Had a phone interview for a job today. It's a help desk manager type thing. Remote.
I asked, "do you use keystroke loggers, screen cappers, and other surveillance technology?"
Confused muttering. Finally from someone on the call, "yes."
Me. "are these always on? I see you don't provide PCs. Are you expecting me to put these things on my own PC? Can they be turned off when I am not on duty?"
Them: always on
Me: "wow"
Them: no one else has asked this question.
Me: YIKES
nothing quite like an injury to reveal unwitting stuck places & ego in your multi-decade yoga practice 😐🙃🙏
(I'm always mad about this kind of thing at one level; yes it's probably a character flaw)
