@jerry How dare you give us security updates!

@katzenberger That’s pretty close to my read too.

I don’t see this as “everyone now needs a U.S.-made router.” It looks more like a regulatory gate on new foreign-made models, while existing and previously authorized devices stay in play.

To me, the real question is whether this leads to better security standards, longer support lifecycles, and stronger vendor accountability. Geography alone does not fix weak firmware or poor patching.

@Epic_Null That’s fair. I try to stay out of the political side of it and look at the security issue itself.

My point was really that consumer routers have been a weak spot for a long time, regardless of who is in charge. Weak defaults, poor patching, short support windows, and botnet abuse have all been real problems for years.

What matters most to me is whether this leads to better security standards, longer support lifecycles, and more accountability from vendors. That is the part worth watching.

New by me: The FCC’s Router Crackdown Shouldn’t Surprise Anyone in Cybersecurity

This really did not come out of nowhere.

Consumer Wi-Fi routers have been showing up in botnets, proxy networks, and larger cybersecurity conversations for years. The FCC action is really the policy side of a problem security folks have been watching for a long time.

I wrote about the ruling, what it actually means, and why this is just as much a privacy story as it is a cybersecurity one.

The FCC’s Router Crackdown Shouldn’t Surprise Anyone in Cybersecurity

The FCC’s latest router crackdown did not come out of nowhere. Consumer Wi-Fi routers have long been a privacy and cybersecurity risk.

New by me: As a Cybersecurity Professional, I Think Proton’s Born Private Campaign is a Smart Move

We talk a lot about keeping kids safe online, but not enough about protecting their privacy before platforms start building a profile around them.

I wrote about why @protonprivacy Born Private campaign stood out to me from a cybersecurity perspective, and why a child’s future digital identity deserves more care from the start.

As a Cybersecurity Professional, I Think Proton’s Born Private Campaign is a Smart Move

Proton’s new Born Private campaign is a strong reminder that a child’s digital life should begin with privacy, not profiling.

New by me: New Glasses, New Network, Final Stretch (Week 12, 2026)

My final BSIT class started, I reworked my home network, got new glasses ordered, ran around all day with family errands, and tried pistachio ice cream for the first time which honestly lived up to the hype.

It was a pretty full week. A little anxious in spots, but still moving forward.
