re-reading in advance of the forthcoming film of the first book, I'm alarmed (after that first one) at the outdated stuff presumably from Gentry Lee's pen: smoking (wat, the the future??), "men writing women" (appalling stereotyping), confrontation and pettiness (wat, in a space crew??) etc. I can only hope they update all that for the inevitable Rama sequels.
