#Chicago folks! Please write to your alders (and sign a petition) in support of the Healthy Homes Working Group Ordinance, coming to a vote this week. Set clear health & safety standards for rental housing to protect families from lead poisoning, mold, & hazardous living conditions. Step to create accountability for negligent landlords w/o risk of retaliation. Promotes upkeep of existing housing.
Chicago renters deserve proactive inspections and healthy homes.

Unlike other major cities, Chicago does not regularly inspect buildings for health or safety issues. Homes are only inspected when there is a complaint, and there is currently a huge backlog. Meanwhile, Chicago families continue to live in unsafe housing or are being forced to move out. The Chicago Healthy Homes Ordinance (CHHO) is a citywide proactive rental housing inspection program that would improve the safety and health of Chicago families by instituting regular inspections.
