The Arc of Massachusetts cares about inclusive healthcare for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and autism. I am so grateful to be involved through
#OperationHouseCall (OHC). OHC teaches medical students essential skills to enhance the health care of these patients.
The #amendment passed in the #House with 350 letters sent. It needs to be passed by the #Senate! Pls ask your Senator to support Senate Amendment #525 OHC, filed by Senator Jason Lewis. Thx!

Grateful to attend 46th Annual Legislative Reception at the #MAStateHouse.

Spoke with Senate President @KarenSpilka’s staff re) 3 bills.

1. S1401 hospital trng. to enhance healthcare for those with IDD & autism

2. S1568 autism police trng.

3. S109 supported decision-making

Support for all 3 bills! Also room I was in contained Calvin Coolidge’s desk.😳

Then got impressively lost finding the West Wing, but got support from House Rep James Arena-DeRosa.

Yesterday I participated in the #Tufts Dental Clinic #CareQuest Advisory Panel Meeting. Talking to dental health leaders who are deeply invested in improving access to oral health services for those with #IDD and #autism might have been the best professional day of my life.

They didn’t just listen. They deeply listened, educated us, asked more questions and brainstormed with us. Tufts University School of Dental Medicine is changing the landscape in this space and doing groundbreaking work.

Fabulous morning co-teaching at #UMassMedicalSchool about my own personal experience navigating the #healthcare system as a parent of an #autistic young adult with multiple coexisting conditions and best practices for treating #autistic patients. I can think of nothing more gratifying than helping to develop a deeper understanding of autism for the next generation of #physicians. I’m so grateful for these opportunities.

Although not an exhaustive list, nor true of all #autistic women, it’s important to note common differences in female autistic presentation. Autistic women are diagnosed later than their male counterparts, partly due to an outdated and false narrative that autism doesn’t occurs in girls and partly because the diagnostic criteria for #autism is more representative of the male presentation, often missing earlier signs for females. #autisticwomen #neurodiversity #neurodivergence #autismdiagnosis
