Though they’re known for feeding on nectar, a significant portion of a hummingbird’s diet is insects, up to 80% for a mother responsible for feeding developing chicks. Since they’re excellent flyers, they have no problem snagging the bugs out of midair, but the clever ones will take advantage of an easier target in arthropods crawling on leaves, as this one did. A nice gift to a photographer who happens to find one.
