In Gaza, every person, the first thing they want to tell me in English or Arabic is 'We need food.' They are saying that because their assumption is the world doesn’t know, because how would this be allowed to happen if the world knew? ~ UNICEF spokesperson James Elder
jesus christ just noticed the quality on my last post. does anyone know how to save a #graphicsgale #pixelart image without the quality dropping? .png, .jpg and .bmp all do the same thing to my image. i'm assuming it has something to do with my computer trying to scale it up (?)

The Event Horizon Telescope has unveiled how Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole at the centre of our galaxy, looks like in polarised light, which tells us a lot about the magnetic field around this monster.

The lines overlaid on the image below mark the orientation of the polarisation, from which astronomers can work out the structure of the magnetic field around the black hole.

Astronomers unveil strong magnetic fields spiraling at the edge of Milky Way’s central black hole

A new image from the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) collaboration has uncovered strong and organised magnetic fields spiraling from the edge of the supermassive black hole Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*). Seen in polarised light for the first time, this new view of the monster lurking at the heart of the Milky Way galaxy has revealed a magnetic field structure strikingly similar to that of the black hole at the centre of the M87 galaxy, suggesting that strong magnetic fields may be common to all black holes. This similarity also hints toward a hidden jet in Sgr A*. The results were published today in The Astrophysical Journal Letters.

cities aren't loud. cars are loud, and car-centric infrastructure (tunnels, highways, wide roads) are very good at propagating noise. if you want a quieter neighbourhood advocate for less cars
