There is now a UI to make simple 3D bodies for parts that don't have a 3D-Model yet.
It can work on the Body outline or the courtyard, supports multiple materials/rendering styles and automatically add THT pins.

This will not show up in KiCad10 because it changes the file format. In about a year with KiCad11 it will be available in a stable release.
