Computing takes thinking.
Thinking is computing.
Intelligence is the fixed point of this loop.
AI is a convergence.

ok so definitely planning on moving this account off the big mastodon.social, but where to?
Blog post upcoming on why.

Has anyone else found a #scholar/#research/#science focussed masto community with enough #AI #AIML #ArtificialIntelligence other than @sigmoid.social (so obvious...) or @schplat.social (current plan)?

Good community and fair, but proactive admin/moderation is important. Canadian or non-usa a bonus but not required.

@Gargron thank you for all that you do!
This seems like an appropriate first comic for mastodon.

A good instance will occasionally close its registration for new members to settle in. To do otherwise can lead to runaway growth making it too hard to moderate.

But some interests have historically only had one instance - scholar.social for academics, for example.

Which is to say: If you feel able to manage a server mentally and financially, don't be afraid to do it. You aren't competing, you're providing more space and less pressure for specialized servers.

Was there a #fireball over #Ontario tonight? Anyone get pictures? #meteor #meteroite

Where was it?

Who's excited about #Canada kicking off in the world cup on monday?

I've learned a lot of Hideous Nonsense during the two decades I've run online communities, and I started posting that nonsense over on this thread on my old account:
https://mastodon.social/@ifixcoinops/105778289798706182

This thread continues right here, as soon as either I think of something else to add, or some new server admin does something foolish that I can point and cackle at.

1. People setting up large online communities without any experience, with Predictable Results.

Previously in the thread I've talked about programmers doing this, and it was journalists this time, so that's a new twist. On reflection this seems to be more of a problem with a certain Type Of Guy who assumes that being good at one specific thing translates into Being Good At Things In General.

This is a trap that lots of people can fall into, because it has rather slippery sides...

Caught up on #Andor now, this is by far the richest drama in the #StarWars universe so far. Not as much action but so much character and struggle. It's shaping up now to be giving us these mutliple parallel portaits of what sacrifice means during a war, during a fight for freedom.
The monologues from Sirkis'and Stellan's characters in Ep 10 were epic.
