Died decades ago, but continue to be soulessly animated.
I have an interest in the history of ancient humanity, including all the previous species that have gone extinct. We have made it 300,000 yrs, our continued survival seems very much at risk. In fact, I will come clean and admit that I think climate change alone will decimate the population within a generation, maybe two. Just means we should be in WWII kind of mobilization. Instead, the US has begun marching in the opposite direction. Hence, my fear of extinction.

You know what drives me crazy?

Every time someone has a good idea to perhaps reduce humanity's negative impact on the biosphere, the clowns who run our economies and our governments will take that good idea and twist it into the worst possible implementation.

Case in point: If we could get large numbers of people to switch from driving gas/petrol cars to small EVs — or even better, to electric scooters or bikes — that could make a real difference in reducing overall emissions.

So what do our "leaders" do instead?

They focus on building and selling huge, bulky, monstrously heavy, status-symbol EVs that not only are more damaging to the environment than a lighter gas/petrol car, but also far more dangerous to children, pedestrians, bike riders, and other cars because of their titanic weight and their reduced sight lines.

It drives me crazy! 😡

Is The U.S. Govt’s Support For Huge EVs Putting Pedestrians In Danger?

Electric vehicles are heavier than gas cars anyway, but the latest EVs are mostly big, heavy SUVs and pickups that pose a greater threat to pedestrians and cyclists

#EdTech claims to fix #inequality, but really just hides and profits from it. Tech companies have taken over classrooms, collecting student data and enforcing control.

Globally, EdTech often imposes Western ideas, sidelining local knowledge. But there’s resistance—teachers, communities, and activists pushing for #education that’s human, just, and actually public.

Some fascinating research out on hacking a Subaru via STARLINK connected vehicle service.

"On November 20, 2024, Shubham Shah and I discovered a security vulnerability in Subaru’s STARLINK connected vehicle service that gave us unrestricted targeted access to all vehicles and customer accounts in the United States, Canada, and Japan.

Using the access provided by the vulnerability, an attacker who only knew the victim’s last name and ZIP code, email address, phone number, or license plate could have done the following:

Remotely start, stop, lock, unlock, and retrieve the current location of any vehicle.

Retrieve any vehicle’s complete location history from the past year, accurate to within 5 meters and updated each time the engine starts.

Query and retrieve the personally identifiable information (PII) of any customer, including emergency contacts, authorized users, physical address, billing information (e.g., last 4 digits of credit card, excluding full card number), and vehicle PIN.

Access miscellaneous user data including support call history, previous owners, odometer reading, sales history, and more.

After reporting the vulnerability, the affected system was patched within 24 hours and never exploited maliciously."

Every time I see someone bring up "IQ scores" I feel the need to repeat: IQ scores were literally invented by eugenicists and they've always been biased towards privilege

Also if you haven't noticed, once someone starts to believe they're a genius, they start to think a lot less clearly.
