@mntmn @ailurux @holo_memory @iFixit This is cool. Do you want a domain? I have “wayttd.com” for “What are you trying to do?” - one of those one-day-I-will-get-around-to-it projects đŸ€Ș
@kathhayhoe Doomed or not doomed? It’s such a strange dichotomy! I do struggle to understand this worldview.
Every time we do something to mitigate climate change: the outcome is a little better.
Every time we don’t: things get slightly worse. đŸ€·â€â™‚ïž

These days, I’m often accused of being a “hopium peddler” -- someone who offers false comfort or even delusional solutions to climate change -- by some who are so worried about climate change, they've decided there's nothing we can do about it. They've given up, and they want everyone else to, too.

But as a climate scientist who’s spent two decades warning about its very real risks, I know that despair is just as dangerous as denial. That's why, in this special edition of Talking Climate, I take a fresh look at the rise of climate doomerism—why it’s spreading, what the science says, and why giving up is the only thing that will guarantee our failure.

So if you’ve ever wondered, is it too late? -- this one’s for you!

Meanwhile in Italy a low turnout ends hopes that the time for migrants to gain citizenship would be reduced to five years.

So it looks like PM Giorgia Meloni’s call for people to boycott the vote seems to have reduced the turnout below the required 50%, which for the Right is good news as 60% of those who did vote backed the change....

Now the Right is taking about tightening the process to make citizenship more difficult to gain for (new) migrants.

More scapegoating?

BBC Draw Up Plans to Win Over Reform Voters by Changing News and Drama Output

The Director General Davie and other executives discussed altering BBC “story selection” in to secure the “trust” of supporters of Nigel Farage’s party

There is, a fine line between ‘winning over’ and pandering to. But the BBC have been pandering to for so long that they don’t know the difference.

Maybe they might try the same with Scotland?

People say mastodon is too hard to explain to non-technical people, but I explained it the other day to someone extremely non-technical by just saying "it's decentralised. so instead of being run by one company, it's run by whoever wants to run their own version of it. This way there's no profit incentive, no algorithm and no ads" and she immediately understood what I meant, and why that would be a good thing.

You don't really need to explain federation and all the underlying tech to explain people what it is. Even federation is simple to explain. "anyone can run their own version of it - but they can all still talk to each other"

I’m starting to get seriously worried about the BBC R4. On a 25 minute drive 20 of those minutes have been occupied by what effectively is propaganda for Reform Ltd, including a comment that a party with tiny percentages of support and fewer seats than the greens could form the next government.

Nigel Farage is the BBC’s creation and it seems they will do anything they can to put him in as prime minister.

On the slightly plus side, it does at least appear to have a rudimentary BMS. Which is nice.
@boffbowsh @clanger9 Indeed. I’m not sure I’m going to be charging this thing in the house. Still, ÂŁ199 tho đŸ€Ș
