The New Zealand Council for Civil Liberties is a watchdog for rights and freedoms in New Zealand. The Council works through education and advocacy to promote a rights-based society and prevent the erosion of civil liberties by government or any other parties. It is a voluntary not-for-profit organisation.

The Privacy Commissioner says that the "Policing Amendment Bill would create significant risks for the privacy and rights of New Zealanders", he points out that the changes are not justified and not subject to oversight. He says the bill should be rejected.

The Policing Amendment Bill vastly expands Police surveillance powers and enables the use of body cams without any additional oversight. It also allows Police to designate no-go areas nearly anywhere in the country and on the flimsiest of grounds. It's unacceptable.
