The New Zealand Council for Civil Liberties is a watchdog for rights and freedoms in New Zealand. The Council works through education and advocacy to promote a rights-based society and prevent the erosion of civil liberties by government or any other parties. It is a voluntary not-for-profit organisation.

The Policing Amendment Bill vastly expands Police surveillance powers and enables the use of body cams without any additional oversight. It also allows Police to designate no-go areas nearly anywhere in the country and on the flimsiest of grounds. It's unacceptable.

@civillibertynz opposes both the Data and Statistics (Census) and Electoral (District Boundaries) bills, primarily for the same reasons as the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination opposes: data will inevitably decline in quality, especially data about Māori, Pasifika, and other minorities.

The laws, rushed through parliament after the Bondi Beach terrorist attack, have been found to be unconstitutional by the state's highest court.

Argh. This seems like a very inappropriate use of LLMs to me. Although it's a tender at this stage, not clear that any implementation exists at this point.
