#PortlandME police are blocking Park Ave. this morning as asylum seekers living in the Expo take to the streets and protest the lack of state action with respect to their housing situation

Last time I quipped that I’ve successfully updated Docker for Mac I’ve got an avalanche of replies to try https://orbstack.dev

Which I did.

My friends, those reply guys were 100% right. This blows Docker, Colima & what have you completely out of the water. It’s a drop-in replacement for the docker backend & JUST WORKS. It feels faster, but most importantly the update works.

It also has incredibly cool lightweight Linux Machines that I can best describe as WSL—all with full Rosetta support.

Say goodbye to slow, clunky containers and VMs. The fast, light, and easy way to run containers and Linux. Develop at lightspeed with our Docker Desktop alternative.

I want to expand more on the comedy of errors that led to the eviction of #Twitter from their Boulder, Colorado office.

The story that leads up to this building even existing is bizarre and hilarious, so here goes...

A thread 🧵

Tired: Organizing the world's information and making it universally accessible and useful.

Wired: Owning the web and middle-manning every interaction in the world, thus maximizing ad revenue.

Inspired: Using ML to middleman the whole idea of knowledge into an unreliable stochastic word-slurry so people need to quadruple-check every piece of information they ever want or need by clicking around to dozens of other sources, thus maximizing ad revenue.

About 2 people overdose in San Francisco a day. The wait list for treatment is too long. People die on that wait-list. They are begging us for help.

But instead of helping, we promise rich people that step past them on the way to our luxury lives, that the city will arrest them.

Looks like you still can't access password managers from the Apple ID sign-in prompt in iOS 17, very cool, very cool.

Absolutely heartbreaking article from @ErinInTheMorn about the incredibly high number of trans refugee families within our own fucking country.

US Internal Refugee Crisis: 130-260k Trans People Have Already Fled

A growing refugee crisis is occurring in the United States, and it is getting very little coverage. I highlight the growing migration crisis, the people fleeing, and the laws they are fleeing from.

what's most interesting about the MeFi discussions of the Reddit blackout is *how many* people had been appending 'site:reddit.com' to google searches in order to get usable results back. I too have been doing this. It is ridiculous and Google should feel bad.
