@gruber what is your iOS ad blocker of choice these days?
What is the "best" or most "recommended" ad-blocker for macOS and iOS? I've been using 1Blocker for as long as I can remember, but it's started to let ads in on some pages.

After nearly six months of work, I'm thrilled to introduce Shortcuts Playground:

A plugin for Claude Code and Codex to create native Apple shortcuts with natural language.

Type a sentence in, get a shortcut back. It can one-shot complex shortcuts, make changes, and remix old shortcuts. Full Shortcuts action library supported.

Free and open source. Install it in your favorite agent here: https://github.com/viticci/shortcuts-playground-plugin

My story on how and why I made this: https://www.macstories.net/stories/introducing-shortcuts-playground/

MacBook Air M5 or MacBook Pro M5? I only now realized the Pro comes with 120 Hz display vs 60 on the MBA. I use a 13” iPad Pro a lot and I wonder if I’d notice the difference… I love the thin and lightness of the Air and was leaning towards it because I don’t need the Pro/Max chips.
Please update your Firefox to 150.0.3.

Details why: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/security/advisories/mfsa2026-45/

Step-by-step instructions:
* open your Firefox application
* choose/click menu "Firefox"
* choose/click menu item "About Firefox"

If it says:
 ✓ Firefox is up to date
then you’re all set.

If there is a button that says:
( Check for updates )
then click that.

Or you may see it automatically download an update and see:
* Downloading update — nn.n of nnn MB
* Applying update…

If you see a button that says:
( ↻ Restart to Update Firefox )
then click that!

Aside: #pwn2own is TOMORROW and they hit capacity for the first time in their 19-year history.

Today’s a good day to get/install OS and browser updates on all your critical devices.

Consider turning off wifi on non-critical devices (putting to sleep is no longer enough because many devices still listen to or contact the internet while asleep) until you have had a chance to safely update their software (perhaps after software updates are available in response to pwn2own demos and disclosures).

Worked with Apple for over 2 hours this morning collecting data for AppleCare Support. I'm having an issue with new MacBook Neo's not being able to add AppleCare+ for Business.
Any Apple admins out there? I’m setup with Apple Business and deploying my first Mac. I want to make sure everything is gtg before providing to the employee. Is Activation Lock supposed to be OFF by default? Or do I need to do something? // @tbridge

Speaking of bad browsers from crummy companies, Google Chrome silently installs a 4GB AI on your computer.

Google Chrome silently installs a 4 GB AI model on your device without consent. At a billion-device scale the climate costs are insane. — That Privacy Guy!

Google Chrome is downloading a 4 GB Gemini Nano model onto users' machines without consent, with no opt-in, no opt-out short of enterprise tooling, and an automatic re-download every time the user deletes it. The pattern is identical to the Anthropic Claude Desktop case I wrote about last month, but the scale is between two and three orders of magnitude larger. This article does the legal analysis and, for the first time, the environmental analysis. The numbers are not small.

Learned a lot today working in Apple Business Manager. Setup my first users, blueprints, and apps. Tomorrow adding devices to see it all come together. #sysadmin
