Looks like mastodon.social is down, possibly due to a DDoS. Time to bring back the fail whale.

They’re looking for a DevOps type if anyone is looking.

DevOps Engineer (m/f/d)

We are looking for a DevOps Engineer to maintain and streamline the operation of our own Mastodon infrastructure (servers, official resources) and help us scale with demand.

Coming soon: a Mastodon move to front-end.social.
Note to self: baby sleeping and grumbling noises sound a lot like retro modem noises.
earlier I showed my friend the blobby suit thing and somewhere along the way I said something about blobhaj and then my friend drew this so now you have to also see it
We're pretty tired, yo.

(No, _you_ have a problem…)

The same goes for domain names; do NOT use a public domain name you do not control in your configuration, documentation, or UI language.

Instead, use one of the available reserved domain names documented in RFC 2606, such as 'example.com', 'example.net', or the .example top-level domain.

❌ test.com
❌ yourdomain.com
βœ… example.com
βœ… yourdomain.example

Pass it on to your fellow developers, designers, documentation writers, and so forth.

Full RFC text is here;

RFC 2606: Reserved Top Level DNS Names

To reduce the likelihood of conflict and confusion, a few top level domain names are reserved for use in private testing, as examples in documentation, and the like. In addition, a few second level domain names reserved for use as examples are documented. This document specifies an Internet Best Current Practices for the Internet Community, and requests discussion and suggestions for improvements.

OK, language weirdness question.

Someone recently said:

"I just about caught the train."

Did they catch it or not? Perhaps it depends whether you think of English as (one of) your first language(s).

As always, if you're happy to do so I'd be grateful if you'd boost for reach, and to get beyond my circle of followers.

Thank you!
