capitalists: "without a profit motive, nobody would do anything. society would collapse."

my friends & acquaintances: "I implemented a SPARC emulator in pure CSS"

I am so glad I got the opportunity to grow up in an age where there were no restrictions on what I could do with computers I could access.

Personally I consider any attempt to remove that access from anyone as abhorrent. It is a core part of who I am.

i may have a list of people whom i consider to be probably the best engineers in the world. but if one of them makes a claim to be "the best engineer" themselves, that is a very quick way to get yanked from said list.
Someone did the funny thing and made HDMI 2.1 work on amd cards despite what the HDMI forum wants https://old.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/1r793et/hdmi_21_frl_looking_for_testers/
while the llms can sometimes guess what you want the first time, when they don't, it is always a case of having to explain what you want to it in excruciating detail, and english is not exactly information-dense. i wonder if someone had an idea of creating commonly-useful prompt templates that you can just invoke by name. could even make them configurable, with the template having some shorthand way of specifying the changes you want, say something like `mk_api_endpoint $name=healthcheck $method=post` (or even use $n and $m for even more keystroke savings). could even add other macro statements, say `|>` that expands into "take the output of the previous step and use it for the next one". someone really should make such a thing, vcs will be over it like flies

why the actual fuck does Linux not have a syscall for /proc/self/maps

it is beyond ridiculous that the 2026 solution to "find out what my memory mappings are" is fucking fscanf

Maybe you don't care about the EU's digital sovereignty. But let's be serious for a moment - the chance of getting rid of MS Teams does sound exciting, right?
Attention liquid glass haters, if you're still on iOS 18, you can still get the 18.7.3 security updates if you enable iOS 18 betas in software update settings.
