Squircle Jail is the worst design-related thing Apple has ever done to Mac developers, and probably the worst icon-related thing it has ever done, period. Incredibly developer-hostile.

If squircled icons are actually better, then let that design win in the market. That's how we transitioned from the classic Mac OS icon style to the more photorealistic Mac OS X icon style. Developers adopted it because they wanted to, and because users desired it.

I had hoped that Apple was going to give us HealthKit data access on macOS this year, but no such luck. Had to get creative and made a companion app for DejaView called DejaViewer to facilitate local network health data transfer. Activity rings on the kitchen DAKBoard achieved.

@daringfireball Is there a real time count somewhere of total lifetime downloads for a developer account, so one can plan if they at risk of the switch tripping? Reminds me of the small business qualifications. I had to try to figure out if an employers developer account was going to exceed the revenue threshold for the year. I was left trying to determine it from sales reports, not to mention sales date versus pay out date confusion. I think I botched the calculation in the end.

Apple Developer ProTip: if you change your app from paid to free with in-app purchase, don't forget to update the Pricing and Availability to $0.00. 🤦‍♂️ 🤣 On the plus side, I can remain optimistic for another day that the pricing model change might actually result in some downloads.

AirTag that fell out of my pocket while snowboarding in Switzerland in March 2025 still pings occasionally when random iPhone users happen by. Outside in the snow and dirt, still going strong. Any Crans Montana resident geocachers interested? Seems like there should be an app for this. Geocaching lost AirTags.

I’m terrible at promoting my own apps, but I’m trying anyway with a 50%+ off WWDC sale on DejaView (my macOS app that privately streams photos to DAKboard).

My DAKboard is hands down my favorite piece of tech in the house. It constantly resurfaces photos we’ve forgotten about, turning them into family stories over breakfast or dinner.

Regardless of DejaView, DAKboard is worth checking out.
