Muzzled by DeSantis, Critical Race Theory Professors Cancel Courses or Modify Their Teaching
--
It’s easy to dismiss the conservative crusade against #CRT as political theater without real consequences. But most colleges & universities offer social science and humanities courses that address racial inequality and systemic racism, and the anti-CRT laws are already having repercussions for people who teach or take these classes in red states.

As fewer faculty members are protected by tenure, they’re finding it harder to resist laws that ban certain racial topics. Their students suffer the consequences.

Work from home has been a huge boon to employment access for disabled people.

“The jobless rate for disabled workers — typically in double digits and 12.3% two years ago — dropped to 5.8% in November … the lowest rate for people with disabilities since record-keeping began in 2008.”

People with disabilities reap benefits of surge in telework

The COVID-19 pandemic's silver lining for people with disabilities: a lot more remote work opportunities. Will it last?

CNN, WaPo, NYT journalists' accounts were restored. The Intercept and independent journalists were not. We've gotten the worst of it all: the criticism of being the “mainstream media” but without the backing or protection of being the “mainstream media.”
It is going to take me some time to figure out how to use Mastodon but I will figure it all out, I reckon!

11/28/22: For tonight’s vigil on campus, they had expected 2 dozen. Hundreds upon hundreds turned up.

I have been teaching (elite, therefore circumspect) Chinese students for the past two decades. I have never yet witnessed this level of collective anger, thoughtfulness, passion, despair - and willingness to speak out.

#introduction I’m a diasporic Korean who grew up in Ethiopia and Kenya, a #feminist scholar and a historian of Russian Jewry at Brandeis U, avid reader (esp. books by writers of color and translated works), lousy Chair of a fabulous WGS department. Feeling a bit forlorn without my Twitter community of fierce activists, scholars, and writers. Pictured below is my brother who teaches at Yonsei U and my mischievous self when we landed in Addis Ababa in the early 1970s lol!
