Stories like this are yet another reason to pull your data from the cloud/ID services provided by #Apple, #Microsoft, #Google. You think you're fine, that it won't happen to you. Until it does.

It's possible to have your own fully synced local "cloud" for files. I have an iPad, Mac, and two computers running GNU/Linux with the same files thanks to Syncthing. All in the background and backed up locally to external drives.

Fully private and secure.

⚠️ Scam alert: if anyone ever asks you to "temporarily change" the email address on your Mastodon account, DO NOT DO THIS.

There is currently a scammer posing as a server admin telling people to temporarily change their Mastodon account's email to an address supplied by the scammer. This is a scam, don't do it.

Real admins will NEVER ask you to do this.

In other news, the blood that has pooled in my cousin's brain is slowly shrinking. He's still paralyzed on one side and unable to speak but he was able to stand on one foot at the hospital. He has physical therapy daily.

On Sunday, a gear broke deep inside our home printer. On Monday. water started leaking into our family room & kitchen from the roof. On Tuesday the rate increased significantly & water was literally pouring in behind the walls. Yesterday my cousin, who is 8 months younger than I am, had a stroke and is paralyzed on his right side. He lives alone in Florida while his family all live here in northern Illinois. I can safely say that this week can get fucked. #thisweeksucks
