@patterfloof @pencilears lambdas are a trap. Even if you built it with EC2 instead you would at least have opportunity to diversify or even just straight up leave.

Pro tip for regulators looking to do good by their citizens (a troublingly small subset):

The memorypocalypse (deflationary RAM pricing across multiple years) should put usable hardware lifetimes at the very center of the agenda; the best approaches are legislated bootloader unlocks from date of sale, firmware code-in-escrow (OSS'd + patent unencumbered for firms that fail to deliver security updates less than 6 years out), and legalising browser choice to extend app compat and enable alt OSes.

@korvius I hosted one for a little while and it was neat to learn about Mastodon more and of course the fediverse in general. I'm glad I did it but without a community to share with others it was just ok. I kept going back to this account.

I got some friends to try it out but they didn't catch the fediverse bug so it just wasn't worth keeping. I love the idea of building a community but it's not a small task.

Just my experiences, good luck with the adventure whichever way you choose!

@nyquildotorg there's a reason it's opt-out instead of opt-in as well.
Notifications were a mistake. I no longer wish to be notified. Of anything. Ever.
@johanneskastl its great being able to rely upon yourself for even the small things. I'm loving my forgejo runners!

@sanzky I will comment though that having solar and an EV is amazing. It's already incredibly cheap to charge an EV and solar just changes the calculation even further.

Electrification combined with solar is incredibly awesome.

@sanzky the most I've done is an automation to remind me to plug the EV in if it's home. Found it was best to have an hour delay in case we were just coming and going.

As far as solar and charge optimization, our rates haven't incentivized that so can't comment on that.

@[email protected] @waldo nothing too exotic for sure but it works very well. I've been enjoying mine for years.
@jocallag42 @randahl might be time to consider not having the Facebook app?
