At some point I might come back and add side flaps to the top, so it's a proper lid, and hit it with some waterproofing to make it rain-proof, but for now it keeps the sun off the stuff inside and nothing falls out anymore, so I'm happy with it.

10/10 🧵

After using it for a few days, stuff kept falling out if the scooter tipped over (the kickstand isn't very long), so I came back and added a lid. It's a pretty straightforward single piece of fabric that goes across the handlebars and down a bit over the front and back.

Last time I pinned and sewed the sides separately because it made things easier, this time I don't think it would have been possible to pin both sides simultaneously. I flipped it with the divider to try and give an idea of how much this one melted my brain.

Worth it though, it'll keep the front pockets from becoming an absolute tangle when they're holding the shoulder straps for my kids' scooters.

The center divider in the front pocket was a pain to get right.

I'm sure if the pictures convey how it worked, and I'm not quite sure I could explain it, but basically it had to be flipped inside out, sewn half-way, then sewn the other half-way because the pins for one side were fighting the pins for the other side.

Stay stitching as regular stitches turned out to be a bit of a help in this case, since it made the backstitching easy to space.

The front needs to hold some curved items, and I was mean to future me when I made the pattern, because I'm probably not good enough at doing curves for how quickly I needed this done. I ended up needed it pin and sew one side at a time, because of the way the fabric needed to meet. I'm happy with how it came out, but annoyed that past me set me up for such an annoying construction.

I went a bit extra on this part, and felled down any seams inside the boning channels so they wouldn't end up flipped wrong-way and catch the zip-ties.

They're pretty close to invisible, even if I'm not particularly good at flat-felling.

First side isn't anything particularly interesting, just a box.

I did stop here and figure out the attachment points (used some salvaged velcro ties) so I could use it in a pinch. Didn't end up needing to, but I would have been in a bad way if I'd waited any longer (and probably should have put them on first 😅)

The sides of stay open because I put in some boning on the short sides. I went back added it to the long sides as well (it was too floppy), but only well after these pictures.

The pattern is ~~flying by the seat of my pants~~ custom, and doesn't have a lot of parts. Here they are before I started putting it together.

I tried to put in some stay stitching to mark my stitch lines, but I wasn't paying attention and muscle memory made them just regular stitches. I also had to whipstitch around the edges because apparently I'm cursed to salvage fabric that frays unpleasantly quickly.

This is a project I completed a while ago, back when it started to get a bit UV-questionable in my area, and I forgot to post about it 😅

I needed a way to cart around sunscreen on my scooter, so I made a saddle-bag adjacent thing for the handlebars. I eventually added a top flap to keep the sun out, but that came later, so half the "done" pictures are missing the top.
