Every summer I repost this article on how to spot drowning. Please read it and pass on. In the last few years I’ve had SIX messages from people who saved a kid’s life after clicking on the link from my feed. slate.com/technology/2...

Drowning Doesn’t Look Like Drowning

Drowning is not the violent, splashing call for help that most people expect.

Quiet Sunday morning activity: Updating #OpenStreetMap `surface=*` information based on my recent bike tour. I documented my workflow a while ago and it still works well: https://www.openstreetmap.org/user/hobbesvsboyle/diary/404272
Workflow for adding surface information collected during bike rides

I love to ride my bike. Long distances. New roads. Usually starting from my home in Madison, WI. I also love mapping. And so whenever Im out riding I try to do at least a bit of OpenStreetMap data collection. When I see interesting features, like a bike repair stand, or stop at a potential point-of-interest, like a café or gas station, I take a picture on my phone and add the data to OSM once Im home.

#Fairphone|s are not supposed to be waterproof (because #repairability requires to not seal the device with glue I guess?).

Yet, yesterday I accidentally dropped my @Fairphone 6 into 40cm deep water, then noticed I lost it, called it (it rang!) and pulled it out a few minutes later.

I was able to unlock and switch off the device, picked up a screw driver and took it apart (which is easy). Turns out only minimal amounts of humidity had entered through the SIM card slot & speaker. 💦 ♥️

#UntrackMe 2.0 is now available on #FDroid. After more than 3 years without updates (deep links no longer worked on Android 12+), I finally redefined the app as a browser that checks links you tap to clean them before delegating the action to another app.
That was the only solution. I'll follow your feedback closely.

@EUCommission

It's a step in the right direction, but unfortunately this doesn't deliver for passengers. Rights should not be contingent on how and where tickets are purchased. Under your proposal:

☛ Not all journeys will be available with rights.
☛ Journeys that can be made with rights will come with extra hassle and a price premium.
☛ Passengers will lose flexibility and options.

There is a better way! 👇️

The EU’s rights and ticketing proposal explained

What’s this all about? Two big hurdles for people wanting to choose the train for cross-border journeys are the difficulty to buy a ticket, and the lack of rights when things go wrong. At the moment finding and purchasing tickets for many journeys can be challenging, requiring visiting multiple disparate websites and platforms. On top of that, passenger rights – like rerouting in cases of a missed connection and delay compensation – are not necessarily guaranteed when your trip involves multiple operators.

Excited to announce that the @EUCommission has updated it's follow buttons on the website footer!
What's that first platform there? Could that be #Mastodon?
And where did the link to #X go?
All the posts and comments here on Mastodon calling for this, trust me we read them!
