Dad, Scouter, tech tinkerer, commuter cyclist, walker.

Can occasionally be coaxed into expressing opinions on most tech, but especially security, privacy and large scale IT/network infrastructure.

Wants everyone to be happy, except bigots.

Profile pic: head and shoulder shot of a middle aged white man with fairly closely cropped, slightly receding hair, wearing a polo shirt. It's Brian.

Banner: a pile of small frogs in grass that's taller than them.

Version 2 is much better. I need to make the next one solid infill in the top layers to improve how it looks but I'm much happier with this version. Thanks to the reading material kindly linked by @Klassika and a 0.2mm printer nozzle I've found that the finer detail allowed by the nozzle means I can fillet the top and bottom of each pip by 0.4mm radius and I get something that's much stronger and closer to the standard. I feel confident to send this to my tester for them to read now...

New achievement unlocked: I've been working on a project with a colleague to correctly write in Braille and then I've figured out how to 3D print an object with the Braille embossed at the correct size. It's probably not perfect, but it should be acceptable. The image is my test print.

I've been told I should post this.

Walking down the steps of a family restaurant in Tokyo something appealed to me about the urban view through the arches over the stairs.

It's pretty easy to tell when my tortoise decides it's time to hibernate because he digs a 30cm wide hole in my garden.
It's been a while since I last saw one of our garden visitors, but this little friend was just there when I popped outside this evening. It's always nice to see a #hedgehog out and about.
I'm not a big cyclist but I #cycle to work every day and have done for nearly 20 years. I always service and #repair my own bikes, but this is the first time I've built a whole wheel. Somewhat over the top for my old mountain #bike, but for fun as part of the project I've put a 3 speed hub in and removed the front derailleur. It took a bit of creative cable routing but it's on and works great. Apart from frame welding I've now done every bike repair job I can think of and that has made me happy.
A lovely 22° #halo round the #Moon this evening. It's the first time I've seen one. #Jupiter is in there for good measure as well.
@[email protected], add this to your list of interesting Japanese vending machines: Carolina Reaper rice crackers in the middle of a park on the outskirts of Tokyo. Loads of health warnings.
