Hänsel and Gretel by daschoe, WildRikku

Not exactly how Hänsel and Gretel went...

Currently collecting art inspiration for a game jam and the "UI" category is still empty. I feel this is kinda hard because I prefer UIs that are rather minimal and get out of the way. Any recommendations which 2D games have great UI?
I've picked up Street Complete again and not only is it a super easy way to contribute a little good, it's also fun. It's an app that makes it simple to verify, fix and add OpenStreetMap data. Occasionally, I even learn something. Yesterday, it asked "can bikes be charged here, too?" and I didn't even know there were combined car and bike chargers. Also, the amount of detail OSM can save is stunning. There's lots of accessibility data, but also "this restaurant serves vegetarian food".

Gotta love Divinity for letting you both turn the hardest bosses into chickens AND hex them so they fight for you. Obviously, if you do both at once, you don't win much. :D

This. I hear "but then we have two copies" so often. If money is not what's stopping you, gift the original. Games are great gifts.

A big "thank you!" to all the people taking time to write comments to about someones artwork.

It's one of those things that keeps us going

People often underestimate the power of soundscapes in TV and movies.

And I am not talking about background music - I am talking about the actual soundscape built by the foley artists to portray a setting.

The sounds of desert winds, the rustling of leaves, the swoosh of long grasses, or the dripping of water in a cave.

We only really remember these when they are done wrong. A kookaburra in a South American rainforest, for example will pop any Australian's disbelief suspenders. Done right, it should just settle your mind into the setting, and be forgotten from the main memory.

But there are a few that deeply stand out and stick with you.

One in particular is the persistent and pervasive 50hz hum in #SerialExperimentsLaine . This hum fills the soundscape almost constantly. It fills the empty spaces, and underlays almost every scene. It is inescapable.

And any time you hear that hum afterwards - from a ground loop in a sound system, or one inducted in a poorly shielded cable, or whatever, you are instantly transported back to the pastel dystopia of Laine.

It is a masterclass in nonmusical earworming.
