This weekend's two operating sessions at a local model railroad convention: Gus's model of the "California Western" (aka Skunk Train) modeled the railroad when it was still hauling lumber from the mill in Fort Bragg.

We also got to operate on Ed's Northwestern Pacific Railroad with its beautiful downtown Petaluma scene - most of the work here was getting through trains between SF and Eureka dropping off cars for other trains to switch at the local industries.

There were uncountable books in the library, none of which I knew. I picked one at random and read the blurb.

"A cosy fantasy?"

"Yes," said my host.

I picked another. "Cosy mystery?"

"Yes."

"Are all your books cosy?"

Cthulhu shrugged. "If you'd seen what I've seen, you'd want comfort too."

TIL New Jersey handicapped parking spaces on city streets aren’t painted blue. What a country!
Second model railroad operations day - Larry’s Pennsylvania Railroad layout centered on Altoona. 27x40 basement. My day was spent adding and removing cars from trains passing through Altoona.

Nephew figured out how to build Nintendo DS support into his Raspberry Pi's Retropie install, requiring him to figure out how to run command lines to do a build.

He mailed me a screenshot of the C++ build along with the comment "I feel so smart!"

Amazing what you'll try to learn when the end goal (video game or otherwise) is so desirable!

First day of a multi-day model railroad operations event. Today's assignment for me: Dave's "New York Harbor Railroad" modeling the rail yards on the west side of New York City from 30th to 12th. He's modeling the New York Central High Line (including the post office rail terminal and Nabisco), New York Central ground level tracks at 30th Street station, the Lehigh Valley car float yard, and the Erie car float yard. Fun and challenging switch puzzles to get freight cars at the correct industries.

Drinks at The Campbell Bar while listening to Dandy Wellington performing his swing-era music. It's a room out of Hearst Castle hidden in the middle of Grand Central Terminal.

I think we've done five nights of going out for music/theater in a row in six nights, and I believe that's a lifetime record amount of nightlife for me:
* Hot Sardines at Birdland (Th night)
* Fallen Angels / Noel Coward (Fr)
* Operation Mincemeat (Sa)
* Dandy Wellington performing at Campbell Bar in Grand Central (Su)
* dark night - takeout pizza (Mo)
* Chess the Musical (Tu)

Along with meeting up with three sets of friends.

Still debating if we're going to try to see "Maybe Happy Ending" tomorrow night.

And then I'm going to go home, lock the doors, and ignore people for a couple months.

Short review: Operation Mincemeat: the musical absolutely rocks. Fly to NYC and see it. Dress warmly because it's like 50 degrees out here right now, and I have no idea how their tomato plants survive conditions like this.
