@eecastro People with depression have repeatedly told medical professionals that medication didn't work, but were mostly ignored. And all the tv fitness gurus, "you just need to exercise more, boost your serotonin." Now a study says no maybe people with depression might finally get some actual help?
#Amsterdam Central Station has just opened two new bicycle parking facilities, which are not built on or underground, but underwater. Together they offer space for around 11,000 bicycles. #urbanplanning

@therobburgessshow To some extent, but AI can only pass the Turing test because people program it to pass the Turing test. It's not intelligence, just good/bad programming. If anyone got close to real AI, the biases and illogical behaviour of humans would be laid bare. It's a long way off if even possible.
@therobburgessshow With AI, there is a risk at every stage of development. Algorithms are already used to sell us stuff we don't need, and by criminals to manipulate our voting. Really pick an advancement and list the potential harms.
@therobburgessshow Societal harms will always be possible whatever the technology. Humans are sadly very good at using any technology to harm others. Humans discover metal, great we can make knives to cut up food and defend ourselves from wild animals, oh and we can kill each other more easily, SM - enough said. Nanny cams to stop abuse, but also to creepily record people without their knowledge.

The Three Sisters

Long before European settlers arrived in America, the Iroquois practiced companion planting or polyculture with "the three sisters": corn, beans and squash.

🔵 Corn (maize) has sturdy stalks that support pole beans.
🔵 Beans enrich the soil with nitrogen fixation.
🔵 Squash leaves cool the soil and hinder weeds.

Synergy within this community of plants naturally improves yields. #gardening #ScienceSunday #plants

@therobburgessshow I'm torn. I love STEM and love advancements in STEM, because we often don't know how helpful it will be until someone finds an amazing use for it. LEDs went from an electroluminescence discovery in 1907, to the first LED in 1927, to lights and tv only relatively recently. For some reason the MSM often hype #STEM developments with doom fantasy scenarios. AI is sadly one of the areas the media loves to dramatise. #ai #artificialintelligence #metaverse #robot #bostondynamics
To folks developing (or interested in developing) for @[email protected] #RP2040 on Windows: we're running a #Beta trial of a new Windows installer. We could do with some more testers before we make it a little more public. (you'll need to be logged in to view the beta forum) https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewforum.php?f=154

Today's fun #BirdWatching #birds #birds2023 was watching a small flock of long-tailed tits having a meal in a bush.
@Pagan_Activist Thanks. I gave my mum two mothering-law's tongues because they are supposed to be easy. She managed to kill them. I liked them. I am partial to variegated plants, so I might give something in that family a go. The peperomia also look fun as they have an interesting array of colours/textures.
