Our cat “Simay” has passed away today. I’m heartbroken beyond words, so all I want to say is to kindly remind you to kiss, cuddle, and cherish yours if you’re lucky enough to have one.

I’ll always remember you looking at birds surrounded by orange trees. Rest in peace my little one, until we meet again.

Interesting juxtaposition today on Financial Times:

On the left: "Delaware high court reinstates Musk’s $56bn Tesla pay package"

On the right: "EU agrees €90bn loan to Ukraine after frozen Russian asset plan fails"

After Apple Notes lost my 2+ hours of work due to no space being left on my device, Obsidian did not and it even notified me what the issue was (which otherwise I probably wouldn't realise for a while more on my own).

Thank you @obsidian for writing better software!

As usual, Gemini 2.5 Pro yielded the best result (see the screenshot).

Indeed, I've been very impressed with Gemini so far. Its consistent performance makes me see it as an everyday tool that I can actually rely on versus a just a cool little tech demo. And I say this as someone with near-zero experience in "prompt engineering" etc.

I so wish I could keep using it without a Google One subscription.

Surprisingly enough, many LLMs seem to struggle with generating GeoJSON that draws a "circle" around a given point and a radius (screenshot using GPT-5).
I don't share a lot of personal news on Mastodon but this one is special: Gizem and I got married on 14 June. =)

This bit about PDF being a permissionless (fait accompli) innovation is my favourite:

Adobe Co-founder John Warnock on the Competitive Advantages of Aesthetics and the 'Right' Technology

John Warnock's sense of aesthetics, combined with a strong belief "in doing things right" technically, has driven Adobe Systems -- the company Warnock founded with Charles "Chuck" Geshcke -- throughout much of its history. Yet while that passion has led to the development of many of Adobe's most successful products and the establishment of key standards for print and interactive publishing, it has also hampered the company in responding to some of the major shifts in technology, like the rise of the web. In an interview with Knowledge at Wharton, Warnock talks about Adobe's history and its business strategy, as well as topics like why he avoids using Microsoft software and why he believes Apple CEO Steve Jobs should re-engage a partnership with his company.…Read More
