@bmop we couldn’t have had better partners for this enjoyable operatic satire!

Our recent partnership with @Odysseyopera on its presentation of Gian Carlo Menotti’s opera The Last Savage, is receiving enthusiastic reviews.

At Boston Musical Intelligencer (BMI), Lee Eisman celebrates #BMOP as “players who can make any composer sound great.” And the Arts Fuse’s Aaron Keebaugh writes Menotti’s “melodies soared, his orchestration swept grandly”, lauding the performance as “a reminder of why the composer struck such a popular chord during the 20th century.”

#Composition for me is an exploration, a voyage of discovery, and an endeavor of extremes”, writes Ellen Taaffe Zwilich. “It is important for me to balance the weight of the solo instrument against the weight of the #orchestra… there is a mutual support and interaction between the ensemble and soloist.”

Dalit Warshaw says #BMOPsound’s Dalit Hadass Warshaw: Sirens features “a spectrum of her orchestral #music spanning multiple decades”: a trio of works with her primary instruments of piano and theremin pervasive throughout. Her music is widely praised for its lyricism, unique orchestral palette, distinctive harmonic vocabulary, emotional intensity, and vivid portrayal of character / https://bmopsound.bandcamp.com/album/dalit-hadass-warshaw-sirens

Joan Tower reflects upon #BMOPsound’s Joan Tower: Piano Concerto — Homage to Beethoven. “It has been a truly wonderful learning experience for me to have composed 12 concertos so far—four of which are on this recording. Unlike composing for #orchestra alone, the presence of a soloist creates a different focus that brings the soloist forward as an equal partner” / https://bmopsound.bandcamp.com/album/joan-tower-piano-concerto-homage-to-beethoven

David DeBoor Canfield celebrates The Voyage of Edgar Allan Poe in Fanfare’s May-June 2026 issue. “I’ve always liked the music of Dominick Argento, but this gripping #opera may be his masterpiece… Gil Rose and [ #BMOP ] rise to the considerable musical and technical demands of the score in their usual splendid fashion. Every lover of contemporary opera should hasten to obtain this masterful American opera” / https://fanfarearchive.com/articles/atop/49_5/4950720.az_ARGENTO_Voyage_Edgar_Allan.html

Elena Ruehr writes, “This volume offers a compilation of my orchestral music, including those works that I composed as a graduate student at the Juilliard School (Sky Above Clouds) and the University of Michigan (Vocalissimus), during my early career (Shimmer, Ladder to the Moon), and relatively recently (Cloud Atlas, Summer Days).”

Earlier this month, composer Bernard Rands passed away in Chicago, Illinois. #BMOP was fortunate to program and perform his compositions multiple times in #concert, and record the Canti trio of works: Canti dell’Eclisse for bass and #orchestra; Canti Lunatici for soprano and orchestra; and the Pulitzer Prize-winning Canti del Sole for tenor and orchestra.

The Canti recordings on #BMOPsound are available to stream and download from your preferred digital platform.
