Slides from my invited talk at @ucl.ac.uk Dept. of Information Studies on “Information Access of the Oppressed: Envisioning Emancipatory Information Access Platforms”: https://bhaskar-mitra.github.io/files/Information-Access-of-the-Oppressed.pptx

This talk summarizes my ongoing work incl. couple of recent papers on Emancipatory IR.

Let's keep reminding ourselves that our technological futures are not yet written, contrary to what tech companies may like to have us believe. We must make that choice thoughtfully and collectively, and for the good of workers and civil society. Keep organizing, keep resisting! ✊🏽 #PCAI #Canada

This Monday, I had the pleasure of co-organizing a People's Consultation on AI event (background: https://www.peoplesaiconsultation.ca/) in Toronto with fellow members of Tech Workers Coalition Canada and members of @techfordemocracy. I had the special privilege of moderating a panel with amazing panelists: Cynthia Khoo, @anabrandusescu, Camila Justino, and Andrew Do. Lots of really engaging discussions and sense of collective solidarity! #PCAI #Canada

I have been recently thinking about how we should teach about topics at the intersection of IR and society. Preparing for this talk really helped me clarify for myself about the liberal / critical frames, and the relationships and trends between different strands of work in this area.
