Last February war criminal putin launched a drone armed with a warhead to hit Chernobyl’s protective outer shell, briefly starting a fire. This week the war criminal cut power to Chernobyl. russia is attacking both of Ukraine's nuclear power plants.
Russia's continued attacks on Ukraine's power grid are raising concerns about nuclear safety. Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says that a drone attack cut power for over three hours to the site of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster. He says Europe’s largest atomic power plant, Zaporizhzhia, remains disconnected from the grid after more than a week due to Russian shelling. Both facilities need constant power for cooling systems. On Wednesday, Zelenskyy criticized the U.N. watchdog for weak responses to the threats. The Zaporizhzhia plant has been off the grid for over a week, relying on emergency generators. The U.N. nuclear agency says the plant is not in immediate danger.
The Zaporizhzhia #Nuclear Power Plant has been cut off from Ukraine’s power grid for an unprecedented duration, leaving it fully reliant on emergency diesel generators – one of which has already failed.
This deliberate Russian action, part of a broader plan to forcibly integrate the plant into their energy system, has created a situation that could spiral into a nuclear disaster if backup systems fail.
