Alaskan music producer/teacher/fan. I especially love vocal pop, rock, retrowave, and adjacent genres. I play keys and guitar. He/him.

Love is not a zero-sum game.
A rising tide lifts all boats.

My artist name is a reference to nagoonberries, a rare Alaskan berry. No reference to the movie Blue Lagoon intended; I haven't seen it and hear it's quite problematic!

My big debut gig went great! It's been my main focus for months now and I'm happy to say it paid off. Everything came together and we had a blast. Here's a clip of one of the covers we did!
Quick snap from rehearsal for my big debut gig on March 14. For this show I decided to learn how to program lights and invested in some stage lighting. It's been a challenge but very fun as well! Can you tell I like purple?!
I've been quiet online but busy off. I have a gig penciled in. I got some sweet lighting equipment and have been learning how to program/sync it. I connected with an awesome drummer and am reaching out to singers. I'm so excited to put on a killer show. It feels good to look forward to stuff. 🫣
Been having a really hard time reconciling living my usual life while absolutely evil stuff is going on in the world. Nothing feels right.
So, this little coy hasn't had much experience swimming yet, but he/she made sure all water was shaken off. Too darn cute! 💗 #Alaska #KatmaiBearCoy #KatmaiNationalParkAK

I made a drum riser! I got the idea from a couple drummers I found on YouTube. It uses buckets for legs. Surprisingly sturdy and portable. It breaks down to a pile of buckets and two 3' x 6' platforms. I love it and am thinking I'll make keyboard risers next using the same method! #gearsquad #diy #drums #projects
Our sweet #labrador #dog turns two years old today. Look at that million dollar smile!

My baseline patch is currently made of three amp models:

Clean - US Deluxe Normal (Fender)
Dirty - Line6 Litigator (Helix original "boutique" amp, )
Hi gain - Brit 2203 (Marshall JCM800)
Lead - hi gain + 808 in front + delay

So far it's working well. Some songs will require their own copies of this baseline with effects (chorus! flange!), but for many of my songs this will suit me fine and will save me a ton of work.

Preparing to play my music live: guitar sounds.

Originally I exported my guitar patches for each song from Helix Native to my floor unit, tweaking them as I went. This quickly got tedious and I've realized that in a live setting 90% of the nuances are lost and it's going to be WAY easier if I just dial in good baseline sounds and use them most of the time.

Canceled my #Splice subscription today after downloading 3000+ samples with built up credits. I don't use it enough to justify paying their 60% price increase. Too bad they don't have a smaller tier subscription and got greedy.

I used it for drum, percussion, and FX samples 99% of the time. Rarely melodic stuff, since if I liked something I'd just try to make my own version. Plus I didn't want to deal with copyright strikes etc.
