Για πολλά χρόνια, το Mastodon -όπως άλλωστε και το Fediverse εν γένει- παρέμενε μια πλατφόρμα σε σχετική αφάνεια, αποτελώντας χώρο συναναστροφής κυρίως για ανθρώπους της τεχνολογίας, αλλά και οπαδούς του κινήματος ΕΛ/ΛΑΚ. Με την εξαγορά του ΜΚΔ Twitter από τον Αμερικανό επιχειρηματία Ίλον Μασκ και πολλές αμφιλεγόμενες αλλαγές του που οδήγησαν στο σημερινό Χ, πολλοί χρήστες του τελευταίου στράφηκαν -για διάφορους λόγους- σε εναλλακτικά ΜΚΔ, όπως το Bluesky και το Mastodon. Σκοπός της παρούσας διερευνητικής έρευνας είναι η διερεύνηση της χρήσης των αποκεντρωμένων, ομόσπονδων ΜΚΔ από τους δημοσιογράφους, με εστίαση στο ΜΚΔ Mastodon. Το θέμα αυτό εξετάζεται από τη σκοπιά της θεωρίας Χ&Ι και βασίζεται σε κατεξοχήν ποσοτικές μεθόδους έρευνας (ερωτηματολόγιο και ποσοτική ανάλυση δημόσιων ανωνυμοποιημένων δεδομένων). Σκοπός είναι να αναδειχθεί ο ρόλος των αποκεντρωμένων ΜΚΔ έναντι των «παραδοσιακών» στο πεδίο της δημοσιογραφίας και των νέων μέσων. Το παρόν πόνημα έρχεται να συμπληρώσει ένα κενό στην έρευνα Χ&Ι σχετικά με τη δημοσιογραφία στο Mastodon. Ενώ υπάρχουν ήδη έρευνες Χ&Ι για τους δημοσιογράφους στο Twitter/X (βλ. Kim et al., 2016) καθώς και έρευνες Χ&Ι στο κοινό του Mastodon (βλ. Lee & Wang, 2023), προς το παρόν απουσιάζει μια έρευνα που να μπορεί να ποσοτικοποιήσει και να δώσει μια εξήγηση στα κίνητρα πίσω από τη χρήση του Mastodon και του Fediverse γενικότερα από ανθρώπους που ανήκουν στο χώρο των ΜΜΕ. Από την έρευνα επιβεβαιώνονται υπάρχοντα κίνητρα και αναδεικνύονται νέα, τα οποία θεωρούνται μοναδικά για αυτές τις πλατφόρμες.
Remember "don't print this email" in signatures that was a bit cringe? It doesn't feel that cringe anymore in retrospect. I'm doing an experiment now with this new email signature :D Anyone doing something similar? Could it catch on?

New phishing scam pretending to be from an official Mastodon account.
Mastodon does not send out verification requests like this. So don't click the link if you receive a message like this, just report it as spam.
An important PSA for people who are active on #Bluesky and who, upon hearing that the ICE account was officially verified, are saying: "I will just block it."
Blocking on Bluesky is NOT PRIVATE: it's very easy to see who is blocking any account by visiting sites that list that information.
I took a screenshot from https://clearsky.app, listing all the accounts that are blocking ICE (I pixelated avatars and usernames for privacy purposes).
The safest bet is to mute (that info is private) 😫
For those interested in reading the thesis: I hope to have it finished by February if all goes well, but it might take me a little longer.
In any case, it will be published in Greek first, but since I've seen a lot of interest in it, I might translate it into English.
