I’ve been watching attempts to convert COBOL to another language since Y2K, and I realized this was the wrong way to go. The real answer was to bring the modern data stack to the legacy world. To that end, with the support of DeltaStream, we are announcing COBOL Streamhouse. A native implementation of Apache Kafka and Apache Iceberg in the COBOL Language. The time has come. I’ve been teasing this for the last month, but now I can finally announce it. As you might know, my early days were as a COBOL programmer, and I was very good at it. Approximately 60% to 70% of the world's business transactions are processed in COBOL.
