With properly applied swearing and 40 flights of stairs cardio (well, second floor bathroom and basement workspace - over and over and over) you too can fix that leaky shower. Not pictured: Several hundred dollars in parts and about 10 hours of labor. Sometimes, maybe it would be easier to hire a plumber. I'm tired boss.
@_thegeoff I think I was 7. I'm in my 50s now, it's one of the core memories of my childhood watching those grow.
@_thegeoff When I was a kid, we were stationed at Edwards AFB (near Mojave Desert) when my dad was in test pilot school. They had been flushing fire hydrants one day, and I recall laying in bed, seeing the moon out my window, and the it was like the Dementors ice crystals (from a certain author I won't mention), growing over the glass. They looked a bit like this and formed in a few minutes. sudden drop in temp and general low humidity of the area had interesting effects.

A Judicial "hearing" was common because literacy wasn't commonplace - the evidence, the witnesses, deposition was about establishing truth via spoken word and memory. Over time photographic and other evidence became more and more important, but now the barrier to forgery of those things is so low, I wonder if we'll return to human witness / hearing / discussion again. Not saying its better, or we wouldn't have introduced those other ideas - but I think our justice system needs to reevaluate.
