@davey_cakes how many people are you following?
I just checked, and my discover feed on Upscrolled has pretty tame stuff. I'm following 12 people, so I'm wondering if maybe without any contacts to "seed" the discover, it might default on "other" stuff (the heinous stuff that you mentioned)
Btw, I also have a profile on RedNote:

A quick note about my previous post: I should've written "global north" instead of "west" (I think the former describes Australia better), but I had the character limit to contend with 😬
I don't have much time for social media, and I probably won't engage a lot... But that's also precisely one of the problems with splitting audiences too much 😞

I'm less than ecstatic about putting more eggs in a private, western, non-federated basket...
But I joined nonetheless: https://share.upscrolled.com/en/user/b8fdfc6a-b7cc-4067-83bc-30d8d454c9b5/
Perfect is the enemy of good, and if Upscrolled can decrease the reliance that mainstream folks have on imperialist social media, that's still a win. Also, in their FAQ they explicitly mention the possibility of federating with open standards, and of moving away from hosting (and HQ) based in the west, so that would take care of 2/3 of my concerns.
@paulbiggar @Remittancegirl about the case of Hüseyin Doğru:

True. HQ in Australia, servers hosted in Ireland (for now)

That said, the EU has also been sadly complicit in the genocide, and quite heavy handed in repression of dissent (since we're talking about media and social network, I have in mind particularly the case of Hüseyin Doğru )
@paulbiggar @benjamineskola it seems that the FAQ had been updated since the last time I checked

> things open and simple with lightweight, common-sense protections—spam/bot filtering, straightforward reporting, and consistent deletes when people remove their own content. We’re building interoperable by design (clean exports, stable APIs) and will add optional bridges to open protocols as they mature, so you can reach more people without sacrificing speed or simplicity.
@paulbiggar @benjamineskola makes sense, but being targeted at the mainstream shouldn't preclude it federating with Mastodon, Pixelfed, Lemmy, etc.
Is it on their roadmap, at least?
