When we were all sharing Chuck Norris jokes on the early internet, I'm sure I knew he would likely have terrible political opinions. But it just didn't matter as much then. Now everything goes through that lens. And maybe rightly so.

30-odd years ago, I lived (briefly) in a friend's broken down car in Paris. There were two parking lots on either side of Montparnasse cemetary in which you could park free for 3 days. Every couple of days we had to push the car through the traffic to the other side of the park. Amazing to hear that Paris is a cycling city now. It was a huge undertaking that was state-led, centrally planned and free. Thousands of engineers were trained at a dozen ad hoc dedicated training schools. All in the age before computers were common. A way bigger deal than the Y2K work that gets cited a lot. I had relatives that became plumbers because of this transition. We could do it again.

DInterestingly when I deleted my account it said I would never be able to create another account with the same email address. Strange way to burn your bridges.
Deleted my chatGPT account - I wasn't using it much anyway and I hope the growing number of people deleting sends a signal to OpenAI. I fear it won't make much difference but it does make me feel better.
