@lilPWA glad you're still with us!

We've all got to take better care of ourselves and each other and picking our battles is a big part of being able to do that. The world is a tough place, especially now, so find what and who matters to you and let everything else slide off if you can!

Do I know any @developers devs that work close to #css that I could nerdsnipe into figuring out how chromium could catch up to webkit in so far as a `:host(:has(~ ul li)) {}` selector?

See it in action, here: https://codepen.io/Westbrook/pen/EayLZow

#webComponents developers want all the same `:has()` goodies that anyone can leverage, and you could be the hero we both need and deserve!! 🦸

In today's episode of "Can It Run Doom": DNS fucking TXT records.

Some absolute madlad (cough Adam Rice cough) compressed the entire shareware DOOM WAD, split it into around 1,964 chunks, shoved them into Cloudflare TXT records, and wrote a PowerShell script that reassembles and runs the whole goddamn game from DNS queries alone. Nothing touches disk. The DLLs are in DNS. THE FUCKING DLLS ARE IN DNS.

RFC 1035 was written in 1987. Those engineers are spinning in their graves fast enough to generate municipal power.

Bonus: this is a fully functional globally-distributed covert data exfil channel that your NGFW will never fucking see if you're not doing deep DNS inspection. Sleep well.

Also lmao @ every blue team that has never once looked at their DNS query volume. How's that DLP policy working out for you.

It was always DNS.

A tiny and super cute mushroom duo! Their caps glow strong and bright when switched on.
These nice little shroomers fit in every shelf or corner and seek for a new home.

For sale, only CHF 50.-
Can ship to everywhere but USA.

The duo is battery operated, everything is hidden under the wooden tree bark.

Please like and re-toot, my little business is struggling ;_;

@thomaswilburn I think you're probably right, but this is no conspiracy.

The research effort towards "world models" pushes towards realtime diffusion style rendering pipelines. Some folks seem to believe this could actually be a replacement for game engines one day.

It might replace some game engines tbh, but it'll be a sad state of affairs for indies.

Executives: "You can all go 10x faster now, you're empowered!"
Managers: "Yes let's go team!"
Managers schedule 10x as many meetings to go faster

Execs: "Look, even designers are shipping code now! So much empowerment!"

Engineering: "Fuckit, APPROVE, I don't have time to review anymore. Have to get to the next meeting about the designer vibe coded feature we're shipping tomorrow."

Execs: "Quality matters.".

Engineering: FML.

@Oaktag lol I feel your pain.

@slightlyoff @chriscoyier yup 100% this. The biggest danger to engineering careers right now isn't AI, it's business leaders who think AI can eliminate engineering.

The difference between unguided random production and the output from an experienced engineer with an LLM is stark. But what we're going to see in the short to mid term is many exec leaderships pushing to eliminate engineering orgs and that'll work kinda if average or below average output is sufficient which for many it might be?

If you are in the UK, I'd like to beg 5-10 minutes of your time to file comment with the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) about the proposed (toothless) "Interoperability Commitments" from Apple and Google.

These are dramatically weaker guidelines than even the EU's DMA, and Apple (particularly) has been utterly contemptuous there, ducking compliance for more than a year. Why is the UK rewarding scofflaw behaviour over these predatory practices?

It says something about your country of residence when half the ads in your Reddit feed are advertisements for immigration to other countries.

The ultimate lagging indicator.

American business has no idea of the impact that is happening due to the brain drain right now.
