DOTUS (Douchebag of the United States).
"Censorship powers have been decentralised while delivery of takedown orders is centralised through a single portal. Citizens whose speech is restricted receive no notice, no hearing, no reasons, and neither govt nor platforms can be held to account by a legal system being outpaced by regulatory agility".
"Researchers have drawn a distinction between "cognitive offloading" and "cognitive surrender." Cognitive offloading comes when you shift a discrete task over to a tool like a calculator; cognitive surrender comes when the user relinquishes cognitive control and adopts the A.I.’s judgment as their own. Cognitive surrender is clearly real, and with it will come the atrophy of certain skills and capacities, or the absence of their development in the first place".
Milliblog Weeklies, Week 299
https://tinyurl.com/APR05-2026 Two lovely Arijit songs (his last few playback songs), 3 of Hesham's (in Tamil, Malayalam & Kannada!), Mani Sharma in Ilayaraja'ish form, Sanjith's catchy Kannada pop, and Amsham, one of the best recent pop songs I've heard!
A Hanuman Jayanti wish where the deity is blurry and sidelined. Couldn't be a more apt visual metaphor for BJP's performative bhakti.
2/2 second paragraph (in which case, it shouldn't be second paragraph at all) - TCG expanding from B2B to B2C business?
But TCG acquired the brand in 2021, and offline retail stores have been in existence already. So, I don't get the line about TCG "expanding" into the "vibrant world of consumer-centric businesses" either.
Shouldn't the URL of the web store be a hugely compelling and creative advertisement, while TCG's move to e-commerce be a press announcement?
Garden Vareli was one of the most evocative fashion brands of the Doordarshan era. Which makes this ad all the more puzzling! I noticed the very wordy ad on the front page of The Economic Times and the Hindu BusinessLine.
Why announce a consumer brand's own web store launch in business newspapers, that too in such a press-release'ish format? Are we supposed to understand that the focus of the ad is not the first paragraph or the end call-to-action, but the 1/2
"But the urgency of the SIR so close to the polls — despite the world’s largest general elections being held on an older roll two years ago — remains unexplained. So does the constant improvisation in rules, especially the logical discrepancy category"
Who cares if lakhs of Indians run from pillar to post to prove that they are eligible to vote? Even the SC has said that they can vote in the next elections, no big deal. EC couldn't care less anyway - they are too obsessed with the performative "purity" of rolls just like how BJP is obsessed with performative piety to Lord Ram. We are all reduced to just that - performative in everything.
"There is only one hero in this film, and it is not the undercover agent. Dhurandhar's genius is to reflect the world many Indians, browbeaten by years of shrill pro-Modi messaging on TV news and social media, already believe to be real".
